Dominican Republic Medical Mission
Each May, organized through Rayjon Share Care, teams of nursing, dental, paramedic students and healthcare professionals travel to the Dominican Republic to a town called San Jose de Ocoa to provide healthcare to the mountainous regions where little to no healthcare exists.
The experience is emotional, gratifying, satisfying while also being very humbling for all involved. We assist new moms, care for kids, adults and elderly alike teaching them how to maintain their health with few resources. We take donated clothing, hygiene products, vitamins, bedding, to distribute at the clinics and work along side Adesjo in various regional projects.
For the 2013 and 2014 years I will be working to establish a sustainable breastfeeding promotion project in the town of Ocoa. Proceeds from my lactation consults will go toward funding and assisting with this project.
We are always looking for new members of our team! If you would like more info, scroll down to the bottom of the page to contact me.

Our mode of transportation when travelling into the mountains of the Dominican Republic to provide healthcare is the back of a truck!
Community Health Promotion

Families bring their children to our travelling clinic to get clothes, toothbrushes, vitamins and medications.

The Martinez family, an extension of our family since May! Gramma and Grandpa provide for their five grandchildren as well as a neighbour's little girl.

Home visits in the poorest areas of San Jose de Ocoa

A typical house made of steel and wood. Many homes are built on side of the mountains. In heavy rain, homes get flooded or washed away completely. The father of these kids is the teacher in this small village. This is one of the better off families.
Dominican students volunteer their time too
Volunteers are what this mission is all about. We would not be able to provide the care we do without the help of spanish speaking people. While in Ocoa, we have a group of young, passionate students that volunteer their time to assist us in communicating with their people.
In November, three of these young people came to Canada leaving their country for the first time. Check out the article in the Orangeville Citizen:
